Ok, this review isn't of the biggest and awesomest apps out there, but it's of a cool one nonetheless! Last night I was browsing the app market, and saw Instant Heart Rate there in the list, and I had to investigate - I quickly downloaded and installed it, and a few seconds later I had a reading of my heartbeat!



Pretty neat trick for a phone that is! How it works is it uses the phone's camera and LED flash, and you basically hold your index finger on the lens - it then calibrates for a few seconds, and starts recording your heartbeat.

That's pretty much it. I reckon the main reason anyone would want this it to show off :) Oh, I guess fitness fanatics would also like it (but that is definitely not the reason I got it hehehe......)

I've realized over the years that I actually enjoy preparing food, but it's usually just simple stuff, like the age old favourite, Spaghetti Bolognaise, or toast... :)

I was browsing the app market, and saw Recipe Search there in the list, and decided to download it to have a look what it's about:


It's basically an app that gives you access to a huge online database of all kinds of different recipes. It also has some nice features like the ability to create shopping lists, or leave comments and ratings on other people's recipes.

There's a What's new? category as well, which lists the latest recipes added:


And viewing recipes gives you a clear list of the ingredients and steps for preparing the dish:



A nice feature is you can switch between US (imperial) and Metric measuring systems, so it caters pretty much for everyone.

Adding stuff to your shopping list requires a very easy registration where you only have to enter your name.

As for the categories, there's A LOT!! And literally thousands of recipes to choose from.

You can even change the theme of the home screen for the app:



If you are in any way interested in food and preparing it, this is definitely the app to get. The only small complaint I have, and this is by no means a deal breaker, is that not all the recipes includes photos. I tend to not even look at recipes when they don't have photos included - I want to see what I'm going to make damnit! :)

El juego popular más reconocido de los últimos tiempos, nada menos que Angry Birds, ha alcanzado la increíble marca de 350 millones de descargas.

Hay varios datos interesantes referentes al uso que le dan los que descargan el juego, la cantidad de horas que pasan jugando y el tiempo en general que ésto les lleva.

El juego más popular para móviles es, sin lugar a dudas, Angry Birds, que ha alcanzado la increíble cifra de 350 millones de descargas, pero este no es el único número sorprendente, ya que se llegó a la conclusión mediante un estudio realizado por Stalbow, que los usuarios pasan unos 300 millones de minutos diarios jugando.

Otros datos hablan de que los tutoriales y guías de YouTube han sido vistas unas 170 millones de veces, y obviamente son varios los millones de dólares que Rovio está ganando gracias a este juego tan simple y tan adictivo a la vez. Todo esto sin mencionar los otros componentes de la franquicia de Angry Birds, compuesta por peluches, películas, juguetes, y demás.

Lo habíamos visto desde otros ángulos y ya entonces sospechamos que se podría tratar del sucesor del Motorola ATRIX. Ahora los chicos de BGR se animan a confirmarlo a partir de nuevas fotos y características que han recibido en un soplo.

Este Motorola ATRIX 2 lleva por nombre en clave “Motorola Edison” y, según la filtración, no contaría con conectividad LTE como la versión americana del original. Sí estaría a la última en el resto de especificaciones: Android 2.3.5, CPU de doble núcleo, y cámara de fotos a 8 MP y vídeo a 1080p. De las fotos anteriores ya sabíamos que contará con un jack miniHDMI (en el lateral izquierdo).

De nuevo vemos “AT&T” tanto en el hardware (lo han trasladado a la parte inferior) como en la barra de notificaciones de Android, lo que sigue sin permitirnos confirmar que lo vayamos a ver en Europa. En Estados Unidos pueden esperarlo para bien entrado este otoño. Os dejamos el resto de las fotos mientras esperamos que se resuelva esta duda.

¿Alguna vez soñaste con tener un entorno como el de Mac en tu iPhone? Los usuarios de computadoras Apple saben lo que es tener una pizca de iOS en sus equipos gracias a la Mac App Store, pero hasta el momento nadie había movido funciones de OS X hacia los móviles.

Y es que a un ingenioso desarrollador se le ocurrió programar una herramienta para tener en el iPhone varias características propias de Mac: un dock de aplicaciones, menús al estilo Finder, gestos gráficos como Stacks, Launchpad y Mission Control, el popular Dashboard y hasta ventanas. Sí, ventanas, como en una computadora, las cuales servirían además para manejar un eficaz gestor de archivos para visualizar el contenido de tu iPhone, como usando el Finder.

Además, la pantalla de bloqueo puede servir para acceder directamente al marcado de números, la revisión de correo electrónico y los mensajes SMS, haciendo de ésta una aplicación más que funcional; sino que algo sencillamente genial.

Todo esto es posible gracias a que Lion Ultimatum es un tema o theme para la aplicación Dreamboard, por lo que debes tener esta última instalada en primer lugar en tu iPhone, el que dicho sea de paso, por su puesto debe haber pasado por un proceso de jailbreak antes de todo, así que los usuarios “legales” de iOS mejor abstenerse.

Los fans de Nokia tendrán una oportunidad a fin de año de ver el muy esperado Windows Phone, que bien puede ser el escalón redentor de Nokia para convertirse de nuevo en uno de los mayores fabricantes de teléfonos del mundo. En el 2012, Nokia va a empezar a venderlos alrededor del mundo de forma masiva, pero ya podremos ver para antes de navidad de que se trata y juzgar que realmente preparó para retomar el mercado.

Nokia parece querer acelerar la salida de sus productos principalmente por el tipo de fama que esta levantando, en estas semanas, no hay grandes noticias por parte de la empresa, sólo el desarrollo de este set de teléfonos que supuestamente contienen suficiente material para hacerse un lugar en el mercado y recientes cambios a su Ovi Store. Recientemente, Nokia perdió su posición en index Blue Chip, y permitió que STOXX la reemplazara con compañías del otros rubros para tomar su lugar.

Para los que no sepan que es Blue Chip, puesto simplemente es una selección (en este caso, europea) de empresas cuya calidad, confiabilidad e ingresos sean invariantes en el tiempo, más allá del momento que esté viviendo el mundo económicamente: es un grupo selecto de empresas que pueden resistir el paso del tiempo y aún tener liquidez.

La rápida llegada del Windows Phone supone a la empresa una vuelta importante a la cima- esperemos que el mundo piense lo mismo, puesto que la empresa no puede tomar más golpes en esta época.

Durante los últimos años hemos visto como la gamificación –añadir componentes de juego para conseguir más actividad- se va introduciendo en todas las áreas posibles de las aplicaciones móviles y por lo visto también ha llegado al deporte.

Zombies, Run! es una aplicación que pretende motivarte a correr haciéndote participar en un juego en el que estás sumido en un holocausto Zombie. Para sobrevivir debes salir de la base —tu casa— para ir a buscar objetos clave en tu supervivencia —comida, pilas, medicinas…— que se encuentran en tu recorrido.

Para jugar tan solo es necesario poner en marcha la aplicación y ponernos los auriculares, ya que será a través de ellos que recibiremos las instrucciones para conseguir los objetos que necesitamos para mantener la base. Además la aplicación nos permite ponernos la música que deseemos para correr, las instrucciones aparecerán como complemento.

Zombies, Run! se pondrá a la venta a principios de año para iOS y poco después para Android. Será lanzada con 30 misiones en las que iremos descubriendo qué ha sucedido. Además la aplicación registra los parámetros básicos, igual que todos los programas utilizados para correr: tiempo, distancia y calorías quemadas.

Supongo que los corredores convencidos no necesitan este tipo de aplicaciones para motivarse pero los que vemos el deporte como una penitencia puede que consigamos movernos algo más gracias a la gamificación. Y también puede que no.

Antes que todo, tenemos que advertirles: lo que van a leer a continuación hay que tomarlo con un grano de sal (o varias bolsas), ya que se trata sólo de un rumor echado a correr nada menos que en el portal 4chan a través de un usuario anónimo, por lo que la veracidad de la información queda en duda pese a coincidir en varios puntos con información manejada por diversas fuentes, lo que la hace interesante.

Todo esto se trata sobre el futuro equipo Nexus Prime, último eslabón de una épica cadena que empezó con el Nexus One y que viene a ser el equipo emblema de Google, por lo que no es un móvil cualquiera. Según dicen, éste se llamará oficialmente Samsung Galaxy Nexus, teniendo un parecido físico con el Galaxy S II pero con la curvatura de la pantalla presente en el Nexus S.

Y hablando de la pantalla, ésta sería del tipo Super AMOLED Plus, con un tamaño de 4.65 pulgadas y flamante resolución de 1280 x 720 pixeles, lo que significa alta definición a 720p en la palma de tu mano. En sus interiores habría un procesador Samsung Exynos doble núcleo corriendo a veloces 1.5GHz, acompañado por 1GB de memoria RAM y 16GB de almacenamiento interno, el cual se puede expandir mediante una tarjeta microSD. Todo esto incluso suena mejor que varias computadoras portátiles dando vueltas por ahí hoy en día.

Pesaría entre 130gr a 140gr, tendría un grosor de 8.8mm y mostraría un cuerpo de metal, haciéndolo bastante robusto, lo que sumado a la amplia pantalla, seguramente harán del Samsung Galaxy Nexus un modelo para bolsillos amplios.

¿Ver para creer? Siempre, pero tampoco hace mal leer algunos rumores de vez en cuando, porque si aparecen, por algo será.

See, that blue one in the top row.

Now, at first it didn't work on my phone, it just didn't connect. What you can do with it, however, is actually pretty cool - you can play items that's on your PC on your phone, and vice versa. NEAT!

I did a little digging, and found out how to get it to work. Note, I have Windows 7, and use the normal Media Player program that comes per default out with Windows, so this guide will help you to get yours working if you have the same OS and use Media Player...

So, to get it to work, you must first allow your PC to be accessed in this way. In Media Player, that's quite simple to do. When your Media Player is open, just below the Title bar, you'll see the Back and Forward buttons, and below that the Organize, Stream and Create playlist options:


Clicking on the Stream option, gives you a few options:


If you want to control your Media Player from your phone, tick the "Allow remote control of my Player..." option, and if you want to play the files on your PC on your phone, tick "Automatically allow devices to play my media..." option. You'll get some warnings, but if you're confident that your network is secure, and you don't mind sharing your files like this, you can go ahead and enable the features.

That should set up your PC to allow the AllShare app to fully work now.

So, the AllShare app works like so - starting it up gives you this:


From this screen you can share the Videos, Pictures and Audio files on your phone - that is, view them on your PC. The only small issue I have here, is when tapping on any of the options, it just gives you one big list with everything of that category on your phone, no folders or any order, so if you have lots of files, it can take a while to sift through them.

And, when tapping one, you get to choose on which device you'd like to play it:


Playing the file gives you the controls for it on your phone, but it obviously plays on the device (in my case, my PC):



Now you have to admit, once again, that is a very cool feature! :)

You can just as easily play the files that are on your PC (loaded in your Media Player) on your phone. You tap on the Remote device option at the top, which will show you all the devices that have media sharing like this enabled on your network:
